Gulf Coast Writers

Founded in 1975, the Gulf Coast Writers (GCWA) sponsors a diverse range of activities aimed at fulfilling our mission of “promoting writers.”   At our monthly meetings we offer opportunities to network with successful writers and editors, with the occasional guest speaker.  Authors may share what they’ve written for public enjoyment.  All meetings are free and open to the public.

GCWA produces a quarterly magazine, the Magnolia Quarterly, showcasing the fiction, poetry, and prose of our members.  It offers contests as well.  With a distribution of 150, it’s a small-time publication, but there’s nothing like the joy of seeing your work in print, as well as the opportunity to share your publication with friends and relatives.

In today’s world, opportunities have become a primary source of .  GCWA offers two , one free and open to the public, where announcements about local writing events are shared, and a second one for members, where we provide links to writing contests, markets, websites, agent information, etc.  We keep an active website www.gcwriters.org with our calendar, a monthly “featured writer of the month,” and individual sites for each published author in our group to display and sell their work.  We also announce our members’ events, such as book signings, publications, and speeches.

GCWA provides many additional opportunities for writers, such as our annual literary contest called ‘Let's Write’ each spring.  We put out an anthology as well.  The first “Teacakes and Afternoon Tales,” in 2008 was followed by “Sweet Tea and Afternoon Tales.” 2009.

November 4 through November 7, 2010, at the IP casino here in Biloxi MS, through its affiliate Gulf Coast Authors, GCWA will be sponsoring a writing convention, with over a dozen facilitators from across the country and Canada, and over 30 workshops.  This is destined to be one of the premier writing events in the region, with special events such as chamber music, photography, and song writing workshops.

If you’re a writer on the Gulf Coast, the Gulf Coast Writers Association should be part of your adventure.
